We’re Hiring: Wellbeing & Opportunities Worker (East & Midlothian)

Impactful Parents is a creative employability programme aimed at unemployed and economically inactive parents who live in the geographical areas of Midlothian and East Lothian. Through participating in the programme, the expectation is that the participants will develop employability skills and confidence to move on to a positive destination such as further training, education, volunteering or employment.


The project is delivered by a Creative Lead (CL) and a Wellbeing and Opportunities Worker (WOW), and the sessions on Wednesdays and Thursdays, 10am-1pm, focus on using creative arts as a tool to build confidence and skills.
During the programme, participants will update their CV, practice interview skills and explore possible progressions, with the support of the WOW. They will also produce various artistic outputs that will be exhibited in a final showcase at the end of their programme.

Job Title: Wellbeing & Opportunities Worker (Impactful Parents – East & Midlothian)

Salary: £26,766 per annum (£7,137.60 pro rata for 10 hours per week and £13,918.32 pro rata for 19.5 hours per week)

Location: East Lothian
Based at The Fraser Centre in Tranent between September – December 2026, then based in Prestonpans Community Centre in Prestonpans between January – March 2027.
Midlothian
Based at One Dalkeith in Dalkeith, Midlothian between September 2026 – March 2027.

Travel: Some travel to other locations may be required from time to time, for events or networking.

Reporting to: Programme Manager

Working hours:10 hours per week from w/c Monday 7th September 2026 increasing to 19.5 hours per week from w/c 14th September 2026 until end of contract.
•Wednesdays – 7.5 hours (working day 9am-5pm, with a 30 min unpaid lunch break)
•Thursdays – 7.5 hours (working day 9am-5pm, with a 30 min unpaid lunch break)
•Plus, an additional 4.5 hours to be worked on another weekday – exact day can be discussed and agreed.

Duration of Contract: Fixed term contract until Thursday 25th March 2027

Closing date: 9am on Friday 7th August 2026

Interview dates: Interviews are expected to be held on Thursday 13th August, Monday 17th August & Tuesday 18th August.

Expected start date: Monday 7th September 2026 – although Monday is not a usual working day, this will be a training and induction day

The Role

Your role is to support participants to successfully participate in and complete the Impactful Parents programme. You will provide support to groups of parents (approximately 12 parents in Q3 and 12 in Q4) to develop employability skills and achieve outcomes set by the funder.

Main Responsibilities

  • Support participants to develop employability skills through planning and delivering workshops including CV writing, interview skills and job research.
  • Be the first point of contact for all participants on the programme.
  • Responsible for implementing Impact Arts’ Child and Vulnerable Adult Protection Policies and following all procedures to do with Safeguarding in line with best practice.
  • Meet with participants on a 1-1 basis (by scheduling appointments with them) to support them to complete an Action Plan and support them to work towards achieving their individual goals.
  • Liaise with representatives from local support services to ensure the participants have access to wider support beyond the programme.
  • Update project trackers such as the budget tracker, participant attendance, project Master Spreadsheet, etc, on a weekly basis.
  • Update Salesforce with project data on a weekly basis.
  • Update Helix with project data on a weekly basis.
  • Attend team meetings and provide updates on progress.
  • Meet every 6 weeks with the Programme Manager at Support and Supervision meetings.
  • Engage with local community stakeholders and partner organisations, to allow us to signpost participants as and when necessary, as well as research and connect with progression and personal development opportunities for participants.
  • Contribute to monitoring and evaluation documentation, as set out by the Programme Manager.

Person Specification

Impact Arts is looking for people with the following qualities, experience, knowledge and competencies.

Qualifications & Experience

  • SCQF level 9 in a relevant discipline
  • Relevant qualifications/experience with a specific industry is desirable
  • At least two years’ experience in delivering support work/wellbeing activities in diverse community settings

Technical Skills and Knowledge:

  • Competent IT skills including MS 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook)
  • Good time management skills and ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to manage budgets
  • Excellent self-management, organisational and planning skills

Personal Skills & Qualities

  • Excellent interpersonal & communication skills
  • Approachable and empathetic manner
  • Energy and commitment
  • Imaginative with ability to generate new ideas to develop the project
  • Self-motivated and able to work on own initiative, analysing and solving problems
  • An interest in relevant and current issues that affect people who are not in employment
  • A sense of humour and a passion for supporting young people
  • Strong team player, allowing everyone to play to strengths
