10 Week Course Outline

Week One: Introduction to the history of fashion, design and sewing

Our first workshop will
include everything you need to know about the history of fashion, looking at
the eras that will inspire the sewing projects. You’ll learn the basics of
sewing, understanding materials, as well as design your own vintage costume
pieces!

Weeks Two – Four: The Roaring Twenties!

In weeks two, three and four, you’ll be
learning how to make a Gatsby–inspired flapper headband, a cabaret fascinator,
and a beautiful faux-fur peter pan collar.

Week Five – Seven: The Jazzy Thirties!

The next block is centred
around the Thirties. You’ll be learning how to make a gorgeous Art Deco clutch bag
– Ginger Rogers eat your heart out!

Week Eight – Ten: The Fabulous Forties!

‘Make Do and Mend’ was the
motto of the era. Bring along your old vintage scarves and jewellery to make your
very own 1940’s style war-time hat.

You will take home 1 or
2 items per each era – if you are a fast worker you will come away with as many as 6 beautiful handmade items, and the skills to create more at home!

Intensive Course Outline

The two day programme will include a brief introduction to the styles of each era – from the Twenties to the Forties. You will then select 2/3 items you would like to make out of the 6 on offer over the weekend.
