Arts’ creative programme showcase 13.08.15
Over the last four weeks, a diverse group of young people have been exploring the idea of heritage and identity alongside 8 leading artists, through a programme run by community arts charity Impact Arts. 60 young people on the Gallery 37 programme, based in the National Museum of Scotland, have created a multi-arts performance Inspired by the One Nation: Five Million Voices film within the ‘Scotland, A Changing Nation’ exhibition.
Young people will take you on a tour of their own sense of identity, and what it means to them to live in Scotland through a showcase includes animation, music, visual arts and performance.
Lisa Edwards, Programme Manager for Impact Arts said:
“The Gallery 37 programme offers young people the chance to get involved in a creative programme when the schools are out, and achieve an Arts Award that will boost their CV’s. Many of the young people who have taken part in previous years have gone on to further education and employment in the creative industries, and with the talent that will be on display at the showcase it’s not difficult to see why!
“This is our fourth year based in the museum and once again it has provided an inspiring venue for all involved. We’re delighted that Mr Sheppard, a passionate supporter of the arts, will be joining us at the event to give out the young people’s certificates and to help us celebrate their success.”
Tommy Sheppard, MP for Edinburgh East said:
“I’m very happy to be able to support the fantastic work undertaken by Gallery 37 and to congratulate the young people involved. It’s great to see the next generation being given the chance to work alongside practising artists and explore ideas through different mediums. We should be encouraging participation and engagement in the arts for young folk of all different backgrounds.”
Ruth Gill, Director of Public Programmes at National Museums Scotland, said:
“We’re delighted to continue our successful partnership with Impact Arts, working with young people to engage with our collections and to develop their own creative responses to the stories that they represent”
