Impact Arts and North Ayrshire Council are hosting an exhibition of children’s art work at The Racquet Hall, Eglinton Country Park on 24.04.15
Community arts charity Impact Arts have brought their successful children’s art project The Young Gallery to Ayrshire for the first time in partnership with North Ayrshire Council. Pupils from four Kilwinning Primary Schools – Abbey, Corsehill, St. Luke’s and St. Winning’s – worked with a professional arts tutor through a series of creative workshops.
The children learned new creative techniques including felting, printing, line drawing and painting. The workshops were not only fun, but helped the children to learn new ways of communicating and increase their confidence.
Helen McVey, the project’s tutor said:
“Impact Arts have run the Young Gallery programme in Glasgow for a couple of years, and in this time we have worked with hundreds of children to increase their artistic skills and give them a fun and rewarding experience. The children always have the best reaction to seeing their art work displayed professionally and the Racquet Hall is a beautiful location. I’m especially delighted that Provost Joan Sturgeon will be joining us to cut the ribbon on Friday.”
Provost Joan Sturgeon said:
“I’m delighted to be going along to officially open this new exhibition which showcases just how talented our young people are.
“The kids have worked extremely hard, seeing the project through from beginning to end – learning new skills along the way. I’m glad that they now have the opportunity to share their artistic achievements in a gallery at Eglinton Park’s Racquet Hall.
“I would encourage members of the local community to go along and see their artwork.”
Miss Maciver, the primary 4 teacher from St. Winning’s said:
“The children really enjoyed all of the activities. They learned so many new skills that they don’t always get to develop in class. It has been a great learning experience for them.”
The pupils collaborated with one another to produce a colourful exhibition which was inspired by where they live. The ‘Our House’ exhibition will run from 24.04.15 – 27.05.15.
