Parody & Performance

The Edinburgh Music group discussed the idea of parodies. Everyone had heard of Justin Bieber’s hit song ‘Love Yourself’ but it was the first time they had all heard the parody ‘Trump Yourself’ a clever and topical satire of the man himself.

A parody is a work created to imitate, make fun of, or comment on an original work—its subject, author, style, or some other target—by means of satiric or ironic.

Discussing what they thought makes a good parody, the large group split into groups of three and four to create a parody of a well known song.

As as some groups played around with the lyrics others experimented with the guitars considering the music to accompany the words.

Inspired by the creativity in the room, one of our talented young people decided to compose ideas for a dance performance that may work alongside the quirky parodies.
