Out of the Ordinary: a photography exhibition by Craft Cafe Govan

Thu 08th February 2018

This March, older people who attend our Craft Cafe workshops in Govan will exhibit a selection of bold, bright and colourful photography at Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens.

Out of the Ordinary is an exhibition of digital, macro, analogue & cyanotype photography exploring themes of the extraordinary in the everyday.

The exhibition will be open to the public at the Kibble Palace, Glasgow Botanic Gardens, 730 Great Western Road, G12 0UE from Saturday 10th March until Thursday 29th March 2018.

Work will focus on details of daily lives that normally go unnoticed, objects with special meaning, and daily rituals and routines that might seem trivial but are actually very important to us.

Every individual’s photograph is a reflection of themselves – like an alternative self-portrait or a snapshot of their life. We have a diverse group at Craft Café and this rich photographic collection reflects their bright, colourful and individual characters.

Craft Café Govan workshops are funded by Elderpark Housing Association Limited and the Scottish Government’s People and Communities fund.

The service is a vital community resource for older people in Govan, offering an opportunity for over-60s to engage their creativity, learn new artistic skills and socialise with community members their own age.

Craft Cafe Govan is facing closure at the end of March 2018. To help us crowdfund to #KeepGovanCrafting, please visit https://www.crowdfunder.co.uk/keepgovancrafting-older-peoples-craft-cafes
