Express Yourself, North Ayrshire (14-25 year olds with care experience)

Express Yourself offers weekly workshops (in 16 week themed blocks) with care-experienced young people aged 14-25 .

The programme is funded by Life Changes Trust: Creative and Active Lives.

In Creative Block 1, running until August 2019, Artist Ruth Switalski is working with care experienced Young People to explore upcycling, recycling and re-purposing through workshops spanning drawing, collage, printmaking, painting, sculpture and ceramics. Discover how artists and arts organisations use upcycling and repurposing to make new works, build communities and re-imagine everyday objects. Looking at ancient techniques like Japanese Kinstugi, the practice of fixing broken ceramics with gold-laced laquer, we will explore repairing, fixing, modifying and reusing.

Young People will have a chance to exhibit their work in a showcase celebration in August.

Creative Blocks 2 and 3 will focus on Sound and Photography.

A finale showcase of all of the Young People’s work will take place at The Townhouse, Irvine in March 2020.

Workshops are running:

Impact Arts, 60 Bank Street, Irvine KA12 0LP and Redburn Community Centre

Bank St: Mondays, 1pm – 5pm / Redburn: Wednesdays, 7-9pm
