Sir Peter Blake donates original artwork to Impact Arts
Impact Arts are delighted to have received a donation of an original artwork by celebrated pop art pioneer Sir Peter Blake.
The quirky and colourful screenprint was one of just 30 produced last year to mark the arrival of smart maters in all British homes by 2020. It depicts different varieties of smart meters transformed into human figures to represent the army of smart meters coming to homes.
The adoption of smart meters is intended to curb energy usage and reduce bills for consumers.
Sir Peter, perhaps best known for co-designing the cover of the Beatles’ 1967 album Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, has made donations of the prints to several arts charities across the UK.
Now, Impact Arts have put the work up for auction in order to generate funds for arts and creative programmes for children, young people, older people and communities in Scotland.
The piece, hand signed by Sir Peter, will be part of the Scottish Contemporary Art Auction, taking place at McTear’s Auctioneers in Glasgow on Sunday 26th February 2017.
Fiona Doring, Impact Arts Director, expressed delight on behalf of the organisation for the donation from such an iconic figure in British art:
“We are absolutely delighted to accept this generous donation from one of our most celebrated living artists. The funds raised will be vital in supporting our artistic and creative programmes across Scotland.
“Our central ethos is that engaging with art has a life-changing impact and everyone deserves access to arts and creativity, regardless of their background or circumstances. We are therefore thrilled to have received this print from an artist whose work is iconic worldwide and is appreciated by so many.”
Visit the McTear's website for more information about the Scottish Contemporary Art Auction in which the print will feature.
