Minister for Children and Young People Aileen Campbell Launches ‘Exploring The Senses’ at The Young Gallery

Aileen Campbell is visiting ‘Exploring the Senses’, The Young Gallery’s latest exhibition. The Scottish Government Minister will be cutting the ribbon on the exhibition of artwork by parents and toddlers aged 0-3 who live in the East End.

The Minister for Children and Young People, Aileen Campbell, said:

“Creativity is important in helping our youngest children develop. It encourages them to use their imagination and teaches them how to express themselves.

“Last week I launched an Action Plan to get families playing and I am delighted to be here to see such an excellent example of how parents and toddlers have had fun to create this artwork. Activities like this help even the youngest child explore their senses and also to bond with the other parents and children taking part.”

Exploring the Senses

Over the last 10 weeks, parents and children have been working together to explore sight, touch and sound with professional artist Liz Shepherd. The ‘Exploring the Senses’ exhibition is a celebration and showcase of the work that was produced together.

Liz said:

“We’re so excited to launch this exhibition especially with Aileen cutting the ribbon. This series of workshops and the exhibition was funded by the Cattanach Charitable Trust and this was the youngest group of children that The Young Gallery has had the pleasure of working with. One of them was 9 months old! The resultant exhibition will delight and inspire children of all ages.”

The Young Gallery provides local children with a valuable artistic experience and engages families, friends and the wider community and provides them with a space to celebrate children’s imaginations. The gallery has been attracting a lot of attention recently since Impact Arts announced the Turner Prize nominated artist David Shrigley as its patron. Impact Arts are crowdfunding £15,000 to continue their work with children in the East End of Glasgow.
