Craft Cafe Govan members knit "trauma teddies" for children

Following an appeal from Children 1st and Police Scotland, Craft Cafe members in Govan have generously knitted a small army of teddies for children who have had traumatic experiences.

The call for "trauma teddies" comes from officers who attend distressing incidents in which children are present, and they act as a distraction from potentially upsetting upsetting circumstances.

Upon hearing about the campaign, the keen knitters at Craft Cafe Govan set to work, making a massive cast of characters which will be donated to the Police before Christmas.

Lesley is one of the Craft Cafe members who has been busy working on the project.

"I used to work with sick kids as a radiographer at Oakbank and Yorkhill Children's Hospitals, so have experience working with children experiencing trauma.

"When I heard about the campaign, I was determined to do something. Most of us here enjoy knitting anyway, so it has been lovely to have a good cause to work towards."

Rose, another Craft Cafe member, said: "I enjoy knitting and like doing practical things - it's even better if it puts a smile on a wee kid's face."

Inspired by the teddy making, the group have also been working on creating their own characters to sell at upcoming Christmas markets.
