CashBack to the Future starts tomorrow! For the next four weeks, our creative team of visual artists, musicians, performers and digital artists will work with over 200 young people as part of free workshops in Edinburgh, Glasgow, Irvine, Kilmarnock and Paisley.

It’s time to meet another of the team delivering the programme. Ruth Switalski works is a fine art, working mainly in sculptural installation. She has a masters in painting from Glasgow School of Art, has run a gallery space, has taught in prisons and runs a public workspace at Dornoch Street.

Here Ruth talks about what the group can expect from her workshops in Irvine, North Ayrshire.

you looking forward to the project?

Yes!
I’m really looking forward to working with young people! I’m really excited
about working with Impact Arts, getting to know the young people . It’ll be great and we’ll make some amazing stuff.

What
can the young people expect from your workshops?

They will learn a range of different art skills – drawing, painting, a lot of work in
sculpture, building things, and we will be doing casting. The participants can
expect a really dynamic, really engaging space and something that is just fun
and friendly.

What
techniques will you be passing on?

As well as expressive visual arts – casting, drawing and painting – hey will gain an understanding of gallery spaces as we work towards a final exhibition in the National Museum of Scotland. We’ll be talking about what makes a museum, and what objects they would put in their own museum.
