Drawing of Life Model for Charity

@ The Briggait, Glasgow, G1 5HZ 6.30pm-9pm

David Shrigley has announced on Twitter that he
will be auctioning the only drawing he has ever done of his piece, Life Model.

The signed A4 pen drawing will be auctioned as part
of a charity fundraiser for The Young Gallery, an Impact Arts project that
works with children in the East End in Glasgow. The fundraiser will take place on Thursday 25th September at the
Briggait in Glasgow.

The Turner Prize nominated artist, who is patron of
the Impact Arts project, has curated a selection of 200 drawings to be
exhibited in the courtyard of the Briggait, ahead of a fundraising event on the
on the 25th September. David’s version of Life Model (shown below) will be
auctioned during the event.

Life Model, a giant sculptural boy, has been shown in
Copenhagen, London, Glasgow, Manchester and Derry-Londonderry, where it was exhibited
as part of the Turner Prize competition 2013. Each time the piece has been
exhibited, the public were invited to “represent their expertise” by drawing
the sculpture. David has collated thousands of these drawings and selected 200
by unknown artists to be auctioned at a special fundraiser.

David said:

“Despite
inviting thousands of people to draw Life Model, I’d ever actually drawn him
myself until last week! I made a small model of the piece before we turned him
into a giant sculpture so there were never any sketches pre-construction.”

All
proceeds from the sale of work and fundraiser event will go towards The Young
Gallery: Art Therapy Programme. The Art
Therapy programme has been developed to provide creative workshops to children
who are living with and coping with addiction in their own families.

David said:

“In Glasgow
35% of children are living with parents who have drug and alcohol addictions.
The Young Gallery: Art Therapy programme is a creative lifeline that will
support and empower children (aged 0-12) to cope with their home environment.

“‘Life
Model’ has been drawn by thousands of people since it was first exhibited in
2012 and it was tough to choose the selection for The Young Gallery fundraiser.
I hope people dig deep to own a little piece of art history and support
children to have a more positive future through the arts.”

Lynne Carr,
CE Impact Arts said:

“The Young
Gallery: Art Therapy programme is so exciting – it will provide children in
Glasgow with the skills they need not only to cope with addiction in family
members, but to grow and develop in a creative environment.

“We’re excited
that David has chosen a collection of drawings by artists of all ages, as
Impact Arts works with emerging artists as young as 9 months and as mature as
90 years old!”
