Introducing Factory 45

Wed 19th November 2014

A
New Platform for Emerging Designers and Your Place to Shop Independent in
Glasgow

Supporting the
makers, the artists, the tailors, entrepreneurs and risk takers, the bloggers,
the creatives, the movers and shakers, Factory 45 is a social enterprise based
in Glasgow’s Merchant City. Factory 45 champions and supports the work of local
creatives and emerging artists.

The shop, which is hosting
a launch party on 04.12.14, will stock a range of art, fashion and design as
well as vintage gems to give High Street shoppers an alternative to fast fashion
and mass production. The launch party will provide a chance for curious
shoppers to check out the new venture, have a mince pie, and buy some truly
original Christmas presents.

Factory 45’s raison
d’etre is to provide young and emerging artists and designers with a platform
to sell their work. In addition, designers will be supported with
merchandising, window displays, events and will get the chance to network and
collaborate with other designers. Bloggers and vloggers are also offered the
opportunity to have their work published on Factory 45’s social media
platforms.

Formerly known as the
Eco-chic Boutique, Factory 45 is a social enterprise run by national community
arts charity Impact Arts and delivers their aim to support more people to
develop their talents within the creative industries.

Alissa Espie, Factory
45’s manager explains:

“Impact Arts
originally opened the Eco-chic Boutique to give young people in Glasgow a
hands-on work experience. As the shop has evolved over the last few years,
we’ve decided to expand the opportunities that a High Street retail unit can
offer.

“We’ve got a new name
and a new social purpose. We want to support the makers, offering opportunities
to local artists and designers and encouraging people to buy from people who
have put their heart and soul into their work. We’ve developed a fair agreement
with the designers, and all profits made will be reinvested into Impact Arts
programmes helping people change their lives through creativity. It’s a win win
situation!”

So what do the designers think? Louise Henderson of Louise Isobel Designs said:

“It is great to have a bricks and mortar shop selling the work of independent designers right in the centre of Glasgow. There are so few retailers specialising in limited edition and one-off pieces. Factory 45 builds relationships with new designers and provides advice and support as well as a place to sell our work.”
