Craft Café is a creative programme especially forArts and crafts workshops for tenants aged 55+ opens
in North Ayrshire
people aged 55+. Participants learn new skills, build friendships and become
actively involved in their community through joining a weekly workshop.
Participants are also encouraged to become more entrepreneurial through selling
items they have made at craft fairs.
Impact Arts developed Craft Café in 2009 after we witnessed the debilitating affect isolation and loneliness was having on older
people in the community. We view the arts as a catalyst for positive, lasting
change in people’s lives and through our work we want to enable people to
flourish.
Following on from the successful Craft Café pilot
scheme run in Glasgow, Impact Arts North Ayrshire is proud to announce that
they will be running their first Craft Café programme.
The project itself will commence on the 21st of May
and will run every Tuesday from 10am – 4pm at 60 Bank Street, Irvine.
If you are aged over 55 and living in North Ayrshire,
Craft Café has so much to offer you. This free workshop is a place to take part
in creative projects such as painting, ceramics, sewing, knitting and much
more. You can also enjoy a cup of tea and light refreshments, meet new people,
and socialise, all in a warm and friendly atmosphere. Whether you are an
accomplished artist or have never done anything crafty before this is a chance
to chance to rekindle your passion or it could be the start of a great new
hobby.
During the project, you will be working with our amazing Impact arts tutors to produce works of
arts they can be proud of. There will also be visitors from the community in to
give talks on relevant subjects and to deliver additional activities.
The programme has been a great success in Glasgow with
excellent feedback from participants:
“This is better than medicine. I’ve had two strokes
and this has given me my life back.”
Margaret – Craft Café Member.
Kirsty Gallacher, Programme Manager at Impact Arts said:
“We are really excited to be starting Craft Café in
North Ayrshire. This a unique and
exciting opportunity for the older generation to get involved creatively as
well as experience the many other benefits the project has to offer”’
