Craft Café Edinburgh Spring Exhibition 2025

Mon 31st March 2025

Last week, some of the Impact Arts team had a pleasure of visiting the Craft Café Spring Exhibition at Marian House in Edinburgh.

This art exhibition showcased the incredible work of our Craft Café Edinburgh members over the last year from beautiful paintings, drawings and clay work, to jigsaws, written stories and even illustrated shoes!

Our members had a wonderful time creating and enjoying the art room which was decorated for spring. There were also plenty of cakes, biscuits and cups of tea for everyone.

The dedicated art room in Marian House was previously the care home’s chapel and it has a lovely octagon design with a skylight letting in lots of sunshine.

Our team running this programme have done a beautiful job of making the room vibrant, colourful and full of artistic expression. It’s complete with a record player and wall art, a piano for any members who are feeling musical, a poetry corner with a selection of books, and plenty of art materials.

For the exhibition, relatives and regular visitors of our members, as well as members of the public, were invited to come along and view the creative work on display.

As well as being hosted by Viewpoint, this project is also funded by Viewpoint and we’d like to thank them for their continued support to make Craft Café Edinburgh possible.

What is Craft Café?

Craft Café Edinburgh operates out of a dedicated art room within Marian House, a Viewpoint care home.

This long-running programme creates a sense of purpose, reduces isolation and provides a therapeutic space where residents can chat, connect and create.

From painting and drawing to jewellery making and sculpture, our Craft Café bridges the gap between care and housing support, creating a vibrant creative space and improving social interaction.

Increased physical exercise, reduced GP visits, and improved abilities to self-manage conditions are all evidenced through our award-winning evaluation findings.

We also have another Craft Café programme based in Elder Park Library in Govan which is open to anyone over 60.
