Connect2 is a partnership Stage 1 employability programme for young people in Glasgow delivered by Impact Arts, Move On and Fare. The programme consists of two models, one for school leavers and one based in schools.
Connect2 works with groups of young people aged 16-19 who are unemployed or disengaged from school and facing barriers to progress positively in their lives. The programme provides intensive support to develop life skills which enables young people to take the next steps to progress positively in their lives.
Connect2 comprises a range of taster sessions designed to increase young people’s personal development and core skills. These include confidence building, problem solving, conflict resolution, community challenge and employability. By setting realistic goals and creating individual action plans to help achieve these, young people are fully supported in their journey of progression. Throughout the project, participants will also works towards a Bronze Youth Achievement Award.
The programme runs three days per week from 10am–3pm for eight weeks and is delivered in various locations across Glasgow, including the Prince’s Trust Wolfson Centre in the Gorbals and FARE Scotland’s office in the East End. Young people are provided with a bus pass and lunch expenses. Eligible young people are also supported to access Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA) of £30 per week.
School based programme:
Connect2 is also able to offer delivery in secondary schools in Glasgow and the west of Scotland for those at risk of disengaging from school with no formal qualifications or skills to sustain further education, training or employment. The eight week programme runs two days per week within the school timetable, with workshops covering employability skills, team building, conflict resolution and building resilience.
In addition, participants gain practical experience in a real working environment, and can gain SCQF-accredited certification in Health and Safety, First Aid, Food Hygiene, and Manual Handling, as well as a Dynamic Youth or Youth Achievement Award.
