Creative Ageing: Volunteer Development Programme

The aim of the Creative Ageing Volunteer Development Programme (CAV) is to build a network of volunteers to promote and develop creativity within the communities of older people in Renfrewshire and East Renfrewshire.

The key word in our title is “Development” as we aim to support people and develop skills at every stage of the programme. Our volunteers receive 25 training sessions, a combination of creative and practical skills from Impact Arts and partners. The members of our groups are supported to discover or re-discover their own creativity and the wider communities benefit from this learning in a direct and indirect way via skill sharing sessions.

We know that older people can sometimes become isolated within their own communities, we also understand that there are people in these communities who would like to give their time, share skills and encourage creativity in others. Our hope is to create safe, welcoming environments within their local areas for them to meet and enjoy arts activities together.

All workshops are overseen and supported by Impact Arts staff with an aim to encourage our volunteers to bring their own ideas and talents to our creative spaces.

We ask volunteers to work in pairs and assist our staff whilst we train them to deliver their own workshops. In addition, we encourage even more local people to get involved at our spaces by offering the second volunteer role of “Helper” whose help is invaluable at creating the “café” part of a CAV workshop – every hard working member deserves a cup of tea after a workshop!

All volunteers can choose to work towards achieving a Community Achievement Award and/or Arts Award as part of this programme.

We are currently over-subscribed for volunteers for this programme, but if you would like to get in touch to discuss further, please contact the Project Co-ordinator Daniella Rossi on 01294 273 051 or email

The programme is funded by the Scottish Government's Aspiring Communities Fund, the European Social Fund, Linstone Housing, Barrhead Housing Association, Engage Renfrewshire, and Langholm Tenants and Residents Association.
