Celebrating the Bard at the Craft Cafe in Govan

Fri 27th January 2017

The Craft Cafe in Govan kick started the year with a celebration of the Bard Rabbie Burns, in collaboration with some fantastic local organisations!

We teamed up with Urban Roots and the Glasgow School of Art Sustainability Project to provide a delicious Burns Supper for the older people who attend the Craft Cafe.

Also in attendance were Urban Roots volunteers and staff from Elderpark Housing Association, who help fund our creative and arts workshops at the Elder Park Centre.

The vegetables for the meal were provided by Urban Roots, a community-led environmental group. This was all produce from the community gardens they run across the Southside of Glasgow.

The haggis, a vital component of any Burns Supper, was generously donated by the Glasgow School of Art Sustainability project, who work with GSoA students, staff and the wider artistic community to address issues of sustainability.

Over 40 people in attendance, and they were treated to a recital of Burns verse by Craft Cafe member Annie Morgan, while another long-term member Danny Park took responsibility for addressing the haggis. Kitchen duties were handled by Christene Brunton, another regular – a huge thank you to them all.
