The first of explorative music activities based around the story of the big fish in the Glasgow canals, sighted by local fishermen, they affectionately named her ‘Big Bertha’.
After a morning discussing stories from our childhood, predominately of myth and legend. The music group experimented with question and answer. Thinking about the character of big Bertha the monster fish and what sort of questions we would want to ask her.
Firstly the group depicted rhythm through a call and response session. Creating an echo of the sound given through clapping initially to imitation with the percussion instruments. Exploring different beats and composing with echoing each others beat.
Working together the group mind mapped their questions for Big Bertha, the possible answers, slowly connecting the words to create lyrics, which were set to the prepared rhythms.
