Older People

Older people can find themselves isolated and with little stimulus. We see first-hand how beneficial arts activities can be for them in many ways, particularly health-wise. Sometimes just the company and conversation of contemporaries is enough to help but in our Craft Café projects, aimed at the over 50’s, we often see a re-awakening or an unexpected discovery of creative abilities which are truly rewarding.

We think you have to go the extra mile to provide such opportunities, as problems faced by the elderly stem from lack of mobility, lack of confidence and a lack of communication, information and support. We will work locally and in partnership with other relevant organisations, such as local housing authorities, to ensure we find ways of engaging older people. Getting information out and making sure they can get to the café are two fundamental and practical issues that we tackle.

We also work with older people extensively in our public art and regeneration projects, including reminiscence and intergenerational workshops.
